ebaumsworld.com is a website that hosts pictures, videos, games, and other internet phenomena. It was one of the first distracting websites I discovered all the way back in middle school when the internet was still young as an accessible resource. This game was my first experience on the website. Be careful, it's really addicting. My friends would try to get 1000 points. Just now I tried about ten times and I couldn't get past 648. After browsing the site today, I've come to the conclusion that it's a bit dirtier than it used to be, but maybe I just didn't notice before.
Eric Bauman created the site in 2001 and was sold in 2005 for 15 million dollars and 2.5 million dollars in stocks. The site has been criticized for taking material that does not belong to them and pasting their sticker on it and sharing it with the web under their title. YTMND.com, Albino Blacksheep, and other sites have fought over rights to material unlawfully taken by eBaumsworld.com. This issue of material ownership is an interesting concept that ties in to privacy issues we've discussed in class. The conflict between sites shows a side of internet sharing that gets ugly and shows that some websites are owned and run for profit.
Youtube.com and vimeo.com have changed the way videos are circulated throughout the internet. Now, materials are mostly run through these huge mainstream sites and websites like eBaumsworld.com get less attention. Here we see that this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdEBu7ODVk8, http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/81381903/) exists both on youtube.com and ebaumsworld.com, but only contains the ebaumsworld watermark on one version. Is it ethical to share videos and mark them as property of one website over another? It is likely that we will watch this issue evolve further as youtube.com continues to grow and the internet community changes.
